ABOUT
This 3D character model was made for my Character Modeling class. It was my 2nd attempt at a fully retopologized, textured and rigged 3D character.
Workflow: 2D concept - 3D translation/planning - poly modeling - rigging - UVs - texturing - adjustments - rendering

A CLOSER LOOK
From 2D to 3D
For this highly stylized model, I chose the character Azalea "Zalie" the dryad from my Odd Roomates animated series concept. Though the concept was and still is layed out for 2D, I wanted to challenge myself in translating a 2D character concept into 3D.
To make Zalie work in 3D space I had to adjust certain parts like the proportions and the level of detail overall.
The final model deviates from the original 2D design quite a bit, but I was able to visualize the 3D concept I had in mind pretty well in the end.
Functionality
This model is complete with low-poly topology and a fully functional, detailed rig.
The basic human body and face rig has been extended to have reactive tail- and leaf bones. The leaves on her head act similar to movable animal ears. Both can be adjusted at the root and will bend accordingly.
Texturing was done completely in Substance Painter, utilizing a few smart masks but mostly painting done by hand.
Most details are applied via texture, not 3D mesh modeling.
All in all this model is rather light-weight.
